while surfing the net, i came upon this annoucement.. a seminar on biblical greek to be taught by dr. firpo carr!!!.
who wants to sign up?.
1. If Carr loves the JW works, why doesn't he take on the real scholars?
2. Even the KIT disputes the NWT in it's text!

i have been watching the news on cnn and happened to notice the news flashing across the bottom mentioning the state of ohio banning door to door work and jehovah's witnesses!
has anyone seen this?
I live about 20 miles from the town (Stratton) which is along the Ohio River at it's northern turn from Pennsylvania and West Virginia. This happened about 6 months ago and it is one town only. The congo is in Wellsville, Ohio.

hi gang,.
let me qualify this post before my usual detractors have a chance to blast me.
i already know that the great majority here do not believe in the one, true god.
Shelby,
As cute as you are I still wish you would just quit playing semantics with people and recognize a paraphrase instead of reading everything literal.

as of 6:02 pm last night i received a facsimile from paul hoeffel at the un on the wts.. he gave me 3 of the 4 things i requested in two paragraphs.. i have sent a scanned version to steve bates and someone else.. i sent it to kent and randy.

years ago i remember reading an old book about the life of charles t. russell.
as a young man, russell was indignant with the major churches and at night used to write scornful letters and placed them on the buildings for the public to see.
he used harsh phrases such as "off spring of vipers" and "harlots".
HI Rollo,
Russell needs to be blamed for the heretical notions he has helped inspire in the various offshoots of the Watchtower Society. Here is a rank amateur who later allowed himself to be called a "prophet, the Laodicean" who was actually proven a false prophet.
He spouted theology without understanding even the rudimentary skills of greek and hebrew/chaldee. He was a master at single scripture exgesis and twisting context to make scripture match his view. He and his secretary greatly exaggerated his 'world tours' and speaking and or debates with 'clergy'. I guess what I am saying is that he was a at worst a rank charlatan and at best a misguided soul with delusions of grandeur......
Maybe most of the board participants don't know you are an active Russellite who still promotes his teachings? Perhaps this is an opportunity to 'come clean' instead of skulking about?

i'm going to stick my neck out here and announce that i'm writing a novel based on my experience in the borg.. tonight, as part of my reseach, i looked up "chronology" in two sources:the zondervan pictoral encyclopedia of the bible, and the aid to bible understanding.
zondervan is a five volume work (vol 1 is 1056 pages) the aid book is 1694 pages.
on this subject zondervan spends 29 1/2 pages of (interesting) discussion that boils down to "nobody actually knows-here are x number of best guesses.
Zondervan publishes John Phillip's "Bible Explorer's Guide". It may provide insight on several different subjects for your research. Check it out.
The Russellites were a by-product of 19th century 'rationalism', which is the idea that the Bible can be totally and literally explained and there are no real mysteries.
The churches have been right all along with their mainstream, common doctrine of salvation by grace through faith, the trinity, literal hell, immortal soul, etc...

Shelby,
So, this is what you are driving at!
>Where, then, is the need for the Bible?
That's all I'm asking...
There is NEED for the Bible when evaluating the assertions of various anointed, self appointed prophet-crack-pots who claim some 'new revelation'. Does that sound like anyone you know, sweets?
If your contentions don't line up with the valid exgesis of scripture then you are either a false prophet and/or a loonie.
BTW, 'you' 'use' 'the' ' ' 'too' 'much' 'and' 'it's' 'irritating'.
'Rex', someone who understands that 'prophet' means 'teacher'.
ok so i was breakdancing at this event called in the streets in frederick maryland, if you want to see pics go to my website www.bboyneko.com and go to the events section.
anyway, its a small town we affectionatly nick named fredneck and so there are many bible-thumpers..i received a series of llittle comic book pamphlets that i loved!
Boyboy,
Jack Chick tracts are ultra-fundie. They are on the level of old JW publications about armageddon. Needless to say, we don't use them. However, those who are of the age of accountablity are accountable for their life's course.
Do you actually have any idea why 'no man is good' and in line for judgement? Try reading the first three chapters of Romans if you want some insight.
Also, there are no 'minor sins', that idea is the result of man comparing himself to other men. One sin violates the whole law. One sacrifice has saved all who desire to be saved.
